We rose early and were able to get a 5:45 breakfast and be
off before 7AM for the long journey, which took us until 2:30 PM with a stop
for a great lunch of Kashmiri non (fruited baked bread) and boneless chicken
tika at the Sky Chef Restaurant in Sivsagar.
Tea pickers in the plantations |
We met our next guides on our way in to Dibrugarh – Lawrence
for the first 8 days, and Bumoni for the last 4, him having found a substitute
as his wife was having a baby. We passed many tea plantations coming into town,
but they were on flatland, unlike the challenging sloped terraces of Sri Lanka
and other areas in India.
We checked into our homestay apartment after checking that
it did have WiFi, and it was great to have this plus a shower, hot water, and working
electricity after three days in Mon. We went to a local supermarket and bought
some biscuits for emergency food and some Kleenex and a 220 volt hot water
boiler for tea, coffee, and boiled eggs for the Camino. After a great dinner
with wine ordered from the local Gymn-Kana Restaurant, we rushed to read our
emails and reply to urgent items and send out some items on the blog. We were very happy to be able to reach Aniesa and wish her "happy birthday" via FaceTime.
